Oh, so your'e going to Ireland?

(Gasp) ALONE?

sunny 18 °C

Yes, dearies, alone. Flying all the way from dear old Bloemfontein to Dublin, hiring a car and driving all around Ireland on me own. The flight ticket , the car booking as well as the first few nights in a Dublin Youth Hostel have been paid. Now, I travel through Ireland via the Net, playing downloaded Irish songs, and generally driving the family bonkers by telling them the new facts that the latest browsing session have turned up!
The downside to going alone is the amazement that is provoked when someone (usually the ladies) hears that I'm going alone. "What does hubby say about this?" Even worse: "What about your children?" Well, what about them? I'ts not that they get abandoned in a strange world, without food or water, with wild creatures all fixin to tear them limb from limb....

Packing. Now that's exciting. I have a travelling drawer, in which everything that I feel I'm going to need is tossed into, over a period of months. Now and than I unpack everything, do a major editing, and repack.
Two weeks before THE DAY OF DEPARTURE, the drawer gets transferred to the suitcase.
One week before: the suitcase is repacked for about the hundredth time.
Two days : most of the stuff is chucked, and the suitcase can close again. A dozen eggs are hard boiled and carefully wrapped in the travel- towel, alond with the biscuits, biltong, mayonnaise, coffee, some sherry, powdered milk, GPS, chargers for cell - phone, laptop, ... more about the eggs later.

Only 28 days to go!
